Football and Education Development Programme
Football in the Community’s partnership with Teignmouth Community School continues to go from strength to strength, with the squad from the Exeter City Football and Education Development Programme doing extremely well in the 2015-16 season in the English Colleges Premier League/Football League division.
The full-time two or three year courses which make up the programme underpin high-quality playing performance with opportunities to access all levels of further education pathways, including BTEC qualifications, A-Levels or an NVQ Level 2. The squad works with Exeter City FC coaches, receiving up to six hours of weekly training and competing against other professional football clubs, such as Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle.
Dean Coppard, Football Development Manager, says he is delighted with the programme. “Three of the programme’s students attended the national league trials at Birmingham City’s first-team training ground and it has been a very exciting season, as the students are learning from former Exeter City player Ben Watson.
“The prospects for the programme for the future are fantastic and I’m also very happy to be assisted by Ben on the coaching side this season. The exposure that the students get to experienced first-team pros and coaches like Ben is fantastic. His knowledge and experience is of massive benefit to me, the programme and the students,” Dean says.
